Celeste Oram is a composer, flautist, actor and director. In 2012 she completed a BMus(Hons)BA at the University of Auckland.
She began composing at high school, and it was her success in winning the 2007 APO Trusts Secondary Schools Composition Competition and hearing her work performed by the APO that encouraged her to continue composition studies at a tertiary level. Her other acknowledgements at university include a Cultural Blues Award, the Hollinrake Memorial Scholarship, the Sir Michael Joseph Savage Scholarship, the Douglas Mews composition prize, and Douglas Lilburn prizes in both composition and performance.
Celeste has a particular interest in composing for theatre, and has scored songs and incidental music for Euripidean tragicomedy, German-language theatre, and various Shakespeare plays, including the 2012 Auckland University Summer Shakespeare Much Ado About Nothing.
In May 2011 her chamber opera The Electrical Eclipse, with libretto by Claire Bracegirdle, was premiered at the University of Auckland. In 2012 she was a finalist in the NZSO Todd Young Composer Awards.
